by Philip Fabia
On the beautiful Saturday morning of July 7, 2007 (7-7-7), a wedding unfolded. It was a very special day for my younger sister, Maria Buenafe Tandoc Fabia, (a registered nurse and the youngest daughter of Mrs. Aida Tandoc Fabia and the late former municipal councilor Felipe Fabia of Mangaldan, Pangasinan) as my mom and I
walked her to the aisle to wed her beloved Daniel Jeffrey Zimmerman (a medical doctor) before about 200 guests from different parts of the USA, Canada, United Kingdom and our own home country, the Philippines. Relatives and friends gathered at the Grand Ballroom of the sprawling Indian Springs Golf and Country Club to celebrate the union of two individuals bounded by love and affection.
The Christian wedding ceremonies were a mixture of church and civil rites that was officiated by Mayor Randy Brown at the covered terrace, amid a panoramic view of the golf course fairways. It was followed by a two-hour pictorials at the landscaped gazebo, watering pond with fountains, and the scenic landscaped grounds, while the rest of the guests were partaking of appetizers of vegetable crudite dip, cheese, crackers and fresh fruit, enjoying cocktails of hors d'oeuvres, of chicken chardoun bleu, wild mushroom puff, steak & cheese bruschetta and scallop wrapped with bacon, entertained by live music of the famous Stroke of Midnight Band.
The formal reception opened with the introduction of the wedding entourage as they walked into the elegant Grand Ballroom through cheers of guests and upbeat music of the band. Then, as the newly weds made their entry, they were welcomed with applauses as they danced their first as a couple followed by a dance with their respective mothers. A lot of dancing ensued as everyone was enticed by the animated band members to dance that lasted until 5:00pm. While guests were treated to lunch of Filet Mignon, Marco St. Thomas Chicken, Honey-glazed Salmon and desserts, the usual wedding customs unfloded like the throwing of the wedding bouquet and garter, toasts to the newly weds by the bestman, Derek Zimmerman, words of affection and well-wishes by the matron of honor Maria FelAida Fabia-Agnes (a registered nurse and bride's sister), speeches by their mothers, Aida Tandoc Fabia and Evelyn Zimmerman Henn, invocation and blessings before meals by yours truly, Aureo Philip Fabia (the bride's only brother from Vancouver, Canada) cutting of the cake, pictorial by table, money dance, and others.
The grand affair was capped by expressions of love and words of gratitude from the newly weds as they embark on a new life together as husband and wife. They will have their two-week honeymoon in Italy visiting the cities of Venice, Florence and Rome before boarding the Royal Canadian Cruise Ship to the city of Athens, Greece and the countries of Turkey and Egypt.
