" In flanders field , where poppies grow ... " Every November 11th , our country remembers our fallen soldiers and the ones who are still around .
It is impossible to put a price tag to our war heroes so the best way is to honor them on this special day .
Not only do we remember our heroes , soldiers who died during the First World War and the Second World War , the Vietnam War but also all the wars participated by our troops .
We also remember the heroes in our own families . Maybe our fathers went to war or maybe not but in our eyes and in our hearts , they are our heroes . Our mothers , too , are our unsung heroes .
In Canada , every November 11th , we remember the courage of the brave Canadians who served our country and honour those who now protect it , hence we celebrate REMEMBRANCE DAY .
By remembering those who served , we recognize and acknowdge the hardships and sacrifices they endured in order that we can live in peace .
We must also recognize those who are currently preserving peace in other parts of the world . It is also important to remember the innocent civilians around the world who have become casualties of war .
Let us pause for a minute of silence ( in prayer ) at the eleventh hour , eleventh day and eleventh month to show our respects to our fallen soldiers , including our fallen soldiers and heroes in the Philippines .
GOD BLESS CANADA , OUR ADOPTED COUNTRY AND THE PHILIPPINES , OUR BIRTH COUNTRY ! !

Today is Good Friday and the first thing I thought of is to read something before I go to the Good Friday rites . I am trying to go through the morning paper and lo and behold , the editorial is what I need today . So , here it is , direct from the Vancouver Sun editorial desk . I am sure the Editor won't mind if I reprint his editorial . I hope it will strike you as it struck me as a pertinent and realistic approach of Jesus' crucifixion and death .
"What is in a name ? " you ask . When it comes to Good Friday , a little . And a lot .
After all , the name doesn't seem appropriate . Commemorating as it does the cruxifixion and death of Jesus Christ , the day is the most sorrowful of the Christian year , marked as it is by fasting and other rites permeated by suffering and deprivation .
It is for this reason that some other cultures eschew the use of the word " good " altogether and have given the day a name that seems more in keeping with its solemn purpose : Germans , for example, call Good Friday Karfreitag, which translates roughly as Mourning Day . Even in English , the day is sometimes referred to as Black Friday , another name seemingly more suited to unhappy origin .
So , how exactly did the day become Good , or even Great , as it is sometimes also called ? Some historians suggest Good Friday is a derivation of " God's Friday" in much the same way goodbye was derived from " God be with you ". Others note that in early modern English , the word " good" simply meant holy , so Christians are really celebrating Holy Friday .
Certainly , the word "good" can be interpreted in many ways -in addition to being associated with fortunate events , it is often used in a moral sense , so the equation of " holy " and "good" seems appropriate .
Whatever the origin of the phrase , and despite the solemn rituals marking this day , Good Friday , is for Christians , good in every sense of the word . The suffering and death of Christ seem unfortunate , but they were also necessary .
After all , Christianity teaches that Christ's death was not a chance event . Rather , His death was preordained - He was sent to Earth to die for our sins and in so doing , He conquered death and redeemed humanity . Christ therefore gave meaning to suffering and death : His sorrows were like a seed- a seed from which He was resurrected and from which a spiritually reborn humanity could flower .
It is not surprising, then , that historically , Good Friday was thought to be a good day for planting seeds . Consequently. it is not a day of sorrow but of HOPE , a day to prepare for the future .
For Christians and non- Christians alike , that is a powerful message . Everyday day we hear news of suffering on a global scale , of wars and famines, of poverty and persecution. And it's all too easy , especially on this day - which for many people is a day simply to goof off- to ignore such a bleak reality , to forget about our worries and the world .
But if there is one day to reflect on such sorrows and to resolve to do something about them , it is TODAY . As on that Good Friday some 2,000 years ago , today is the day to plant the seeds that will ensure a better future for humanity . And even more so , to ensure a better humanity .
