I just got into Pec Visperas' email (Sun Mar 11th). He reports:

"SYDNEY MOURNS THE SUDDEN DEATH OF A DEARLY BELOVED FATHER,HUSBAND,BROTHER AND REAL FRIEND. ARTHUR YDIA passed away yesterday Saturday, the 10th of March at 8 in the morning, Sydney time. He suffered a massive heart attack, the 1st & the last. In behalf of the Mangaldan & friends association of Sydney, I would like to convey our condolences to Minda and family and the Ydia family here, in USA, CANADA and PHILIPPINES.."

Fred Maningding: Grassroot Entrepreneur

Sil Moulic from New Jersey sent me a sad note that Fred Maningding (Barangay Poblacion) passed away abruptly last week. I do not know the circumstances of the event. My family and I wish to send our sincerest condolences to Violy and children.

Fred used to teach in the town's public school system before he launched a second career in the trading of meat products. He became very successful by keeping the discipline of a grassroot entrepreneur, indefatigueable, almost never having enough time to sleep. He was very kind to many and would go out of his way to help those in need. He tried his hand in politics as a town councilor but narrowly lost his bid. He showed the way to many, provided a model to the young on how to make one's dreams and aspirations a reality.

Thank you for having met such a good man.

Paquito Velante: 2006

I have a received an email from Ike Velante, Melbourne, Australia, conveying that his father, Paquito Velante, passed away last Sep. 25, 2006. Tio Paquito and my father, Atty. Pedro Sta. Maria-De Guzman were very close friends and they were dedicated officers of the Knights of Columbus, St. Thomas Aquinas Council. Even though Tio Paquito in later years would reside in Melbourne, he would mail to my father his contributing articles to the monthly bulletin of the KofC. Aliguas Mangaldan sends its condolences to the Velante family.
